The Rider Waite tarot pack (78 in all) is divided into Major Arcana and Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana which is 22 in number represent archetype of different personalities or situations embedded in the collective unconscious of all human beings as devised by the famous psychologist Carl Jung.
The Minor Arcana has four suits – Cups, Pentacles, Swords and Wands, each suit numbering from ace to ten and four cards (court cards) for a total of 14 and in all 56 cards. They represent more mundane aspects of life, including people we meet, situations which are represented by Court Cards.
