The tarot first known as trinofi and later as tarocchi is a pack of cards used from the 15th century in various parts of Europe to play a group of card games such as Italian tarocchi and French tarot.From then until present time tarot has also been used by mystics and occulists as divination tool or as a map of mental and spiritual pathways.
The Rider Waite tarot pack (78 in all) is divided into Major Arcana and Minor Arcana.The Major Arcana which is 22 in number represent archetype of different personalities or situations embedded in the collective unconscious of all human beings as devised by the famous psychologist Carl Jung.
The Minor Arcana has four suits – Cups,Pentacles,Swords and Wands,each suit numbering from ace to ten and four cards (court cards)for a total of 14 and in all 56 cards.They represent more mundane aspects of life,including people we meet,situations which are represented by Court Cards.
Tarot gives a deep insight into the past,present and future.It is not merely a tool for future prediction but also makes us aware of a lot of things going on in our life on a very deep subconscious level.The symbolism of the cards shows us some very important lessons in life and helps us to know the ultimate purpose of life.
